PTSD An Osteopathic Perspective, Part I

Osteopathy can be of tremendous service to those suffering from PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). From an osteopathic perspective PTSD disrupts the intricate balance between mind, body, soul, the senses, and perception. Through the principles of wholeness and the suspensory mechanism of the Tide the course will explore the important relationship of ignition and perception. We will look at mind, memory and the fluid body, seams, gross and subtle digestion and breath in the treatment of PTSD.  This course was developed with Dr. Jelaous’ support and feedback over the last year and half of his life.

Prerequisites:  Phase VII

Date: September 3-6, 2025

The Breath Beyond The Breath:

From Physiology to Perception the Wisdom of Primary and Thoracic Respiration

Breath is the living link between the subtle and the gross, the visible and the invisible. In osteopathy breath is more than a physiological function—it is a living expression of life’s formative forces.
This course explores the continuum of breath from thoracic respiration to the Primary Respiratory Mechanism, and into the Breath of Life, as the integrative source of all living systems.
Grounded in Biodynamic principles, this course supports participants in refining perceptual skills and deepening clinical clarity. Through direct experience and embodied presence, we will cultivate a more intimate relationship with the Breath of Life.

ABOUT

Dr. Olixn Adams currently works at Southern Coos Hospital in Bandon, Oregon, where he provides osteopathic and general medical care to hospitalized patients. He also maintains a consultative clinic and is the medical director for Pranada Wellness Centre—the only clinic in the U.S. dedicated to the combined practice of Ayurveda and Osteopathy.

His path in medicine was deeply shaped by his early mentorship with Dr. James Jealous, whom he met a year before medical school. That relationship clarified for him the unifying principle of the Breath of Life behind many healing traditions he had studied previously, while revealing the deeper potential of osteopathy.  Under Dr. Jealous’ guidance, Dr. Adams became a member of the Biodynamic Teaching Faculty and now teaches and lectures internationally.

Dr. Adams' clinical work has spanned diverse settings—from the Hopi Indian Reservation to rural hospitals across Colorado, Arizona, and Oregon. He has provided care in the hospital, emergency room, clinic, and obstetrics, which has given him a clear and direct understanding of osteopathy’s profound healing potential.

After completing his residency in Rural Family Medicine in Wray, Colorado, he established the first hospital-based homeopathic pharmacy at Spanish Peaks Hospital in southern Colorado— facilitating the integration of osteopathy, homeopathy, and allopathy within the hospital’s medical practices.

As both physician and teacher, Dr. Adams remains devoted to advancing a model of care that honours the whole person while listening for the quiet rhythms of the Breath of Life, where the deepest healing arises and the true meaning of medicine is revealed.
